Last week was my first week back with students! We spent our week mostly going over routines and procedures. I always spend a lot of time that first week going over rules, routines, and procedures. I think it is super important that students get familiar with you and their new classroom. When they come to you they  they are used to their old teacher and how they did things in that classroom. And since all teachers and classrooms are different it is important for them to get their new routine down pat in order for them to be successful and feel comfortable in your classroom. We also spend time getting to know one another with fun things like find a friend activities, sharing what we did over the summer, and reading stories like First Grade Jitters, David Goes to School, and Froggy Goes to School . We also did some kindergarten review to help me get an idea of what they know and where they are at. 

Tomorrow I plan to hit the ground running with all things first grade! I hope my firsties are ready for a full day of first grade skills! I will be back soon with a post with what we have been up to in room 4 since we started back to school.
