Five for Friday! {March 25, 2016}

I'm linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday {on a Saturday}! Here are my five random things from this week! :)

We decorated our hallway bulletin board with some Easter cuties...chicks and lambs from my Hippity, Hoppity Easter Fun pack.

We did Jennifer from First Grade Blue Skies bunny directed drawing and paired it with Cara from The First Grade Parade's freebie writing page. They turned out super cute!!

I made these for my firsties for an Easter treat. They loved them!

We read The Easter Bunny's Assistant this week and did some activities from Abby from The Inspired Apple's companion pack for the book. My kids LOVED this book soooo much! So many laughs! Her companion pack was perfect!

We had our egg hunt on Thursday. We had so many prizes everyone ended up with 2!

Since it rained we had to have our hunt in the gym. Still super fun!

These two sweeties have been busy reading Junie B., First Grader Dumb Bunny and doing this companion pack. I love their love of reading! 

And...

My kids have been rocking their centers! I'm loving that they have become independent and use this time wisely now.

I know that was five but I've just got to share these pics to make you smile!

I spent my day off on Friday with this cutie baby and boy was it a GOOD Friday! :) We went to the vet, Petco, Old Navy, and Zaxby's. He sure is a cute sidekick. I love his precious little heart so much.

Look at that smile!!!! He's even happy at the vet! Does it get any cuter???

Check out what I found at Petco for him!!!! A Cat in the Hat toy! They had a whole section of toys for pets! I wanted to get everything but resisted and just got this one...for now! ;)

How I Spent My Spring Break {Writing Freebie!}

Hola blog friends and happy second day of spring! Last week we were on spring break. Eric and I spent the week in the Dominican Republic and we loved every single second! We relaxed by the pool and on the beach... ate, ate, and ate some more...got my picture made with a monkey and some parrots...went on a dune buggy adventure and got all kinds of muddy...went to a foam party at the pool...and just enjoyed not having to be anywhere for the week but smack dab in the middle of paradise.
We had the absolute best time....so much so that I was ready to stay there and just sell shells, braid hair, and live on love people! Ha! #kiddingnotkidding

I sure do love this handsome fella and all of our adventures we go on. Life with him sure is special and fun and I wouldn't trade it for the world. :)

Today, it was our first day back from spring break so I had my sweeties write about how they spent their spring break. Then they shared with the class what they did. 

While writing one sweetie asked me how to spell "cavin."

Here is how our conversation went:  

Student: "Miss Elisabeth, how do you spell cavin?"

Me: "cabin?"

Student: "no, CAVIN." (Saying it louder this time.)

Me: "Are you saying cabin?"

Student: "umm, no, I want to know how to spell cavin."

Me: "what's a cavin? I'm not sure I understand."

Different student: (starts laughing) and says to another student "Miss Elisabeth doesn't even know what a cavin is."

Student: "It's brown and in the woods."

Me: "You're talking about a cabin." 

Student: "no, I'm really not... I'm talking about a C-A-V-I-N." (Stressing each part of the word in a very loud voice) lol

Me: "ok, can you use it in a sentence for me?"

Student: "Yes. I stayed in a CAVIN for 5 days."

I finally convinced the little cutie that it was in fact a cabin. It did take quite a bit of persuading though. Ha!

The Pencil Grip, Inc. {Giveaway!}

One struggle I have as a teacher is getting students to properly hold their pencils and form their letters correctly when writing. The Crossover Original

The Pinch Grip

The Pinch Grip balances structure with freedom and enhances comfort and control for the writer. The Pinch Grip is a transitional grip and it bridges the gap between more structured grips and grips that provide more freedom. This intermediate step in the learning process can better aid the development of proper writing technique while improving handwriting, giving more control, and reducing hand fatigue. Its unique, patented design gently encourages the fingers and hand to rest in the proper position for gripping. Unlike other pencil grips, The Pinch Grip feels natural because of its ergonomic design and soft, flexible, latex-free material.

I had a few helpers try these out and thy all picked this one as their favorite.

Green Eggs and Ham Day!

On Thursday we were all about Green Eggs and Ham! We wore green, read the book and made predictions about if we thought we would like green eggs and ham, and then we tasted them! Afterwards we did a class vote and the verdict is in...My first graders love green eggs and ham! We also made a cute craft and students wrote about something they don't like. 

This sweetie said our whole class liked it really good. thanks
