Back The Bus Up Post and A Sale!! :)

In the words of Skippy Jon Jones "Holy Guacamole!" It's been a long time since I have blogged. I have been all kinds of busy and this little blog has been put on the back burner so it would seem. I really, really, really hope I can get back in a good blogging groove because I really do love sharing what we've been up to in room 04 on this little blog.

So let's back this bus up a bit and take it back for a little rewind post shall we....

In October I got to meet up with my sweet friend Cara for a little dinner date at J. Alexander's. Cara is one of my absolute favorites!! Not only is she a teaching genius and a domestic goddess ;) but she is also one of the sweetest people I have ever met! I admire this sweet girl in so many ways and I am so happy that I can call her my friend! :) I love her to pieces!

I also got to see Cara present at the SDE First Grade Conference in Franklin! This girl seriously has the BEST ideas! I learned so much and was so inspired by her creativity... I couldn't wait to get back and start implementing her amazing ideas that she shared! If you haven't had a chance to see her present... you are missing out! She is amazing!

Speaking of Cara.... a couple of weeks ago we were learning all about compound words and her Cookin' Up Compound Words pack is the perfect pack to use when teaching about compound words. It's packed full of great activities! Here are a few pics of some of the things we did from her awesome pack.

I gave each student a compound word... they read the word out loud and then decided whether or not it was a real compound word or nonsense and then they added it to our little chart.

For this activity, students worked in their groups. I gave each group a baggie of words. They worked together to make compound words. They wrote the word they made, illustrated it, and then used it in a sentence. Once everyone was finished I let each group share a few of the words they made. I did a little formative assessment by asking the rest of the class to put a thumbs up if they agreed it was a compound word, thumbs to the side if they weren't sure, and thumbs down if they disagreed.

We did a little unit on Dinosaurs... Here is a little writing craftivity we did.

This activity is in a dinosaur unit that I started working on... but I got to busy and haven't had time to put the finishing touches on it. It is on my to-do list and I hope to get it finished soon!

Eric and I went to Savannah for a little weekend trip with our favorite little couple, Steve and Cindy.

photo booth fun!

Me and a few of my teacher friends dressed up at school as Ninja Turtles for Halloween. :)

So I decided Dexter needed to be one too! :)

Is he not the cutest Ninja Turtle or what???

For Halloween our guidance counselor hosted a pumpkin decorating contest. The theme was favorite book character. This was the one I did for my class. Not only was Wilbur special in the book.... but he turned out to be pretty special at my school! We won FIRST place!! YAY!!

My little Dexter turned 5! We celebrated with a Scooby Doo party! Fun times! Love his sweet little heart! I hope we have many, many, many more birthdays to celebrate with this little fur baby!

We went to Jamaica a couple of weeks ago and had a fabulous time. Love this guy sooo much! We have a blast together!

And do you remember above when I mentioned about my Wilbur pumpkin??? Well while we were in Jamaica... he decided to rot in my class. YIKES!! I heard it was pretty stinky!! haha

Recently in reading our skill was compare/contrast. I thought it would be a great time to pull out some of my fairy tale books to use for this skill. I love fairy tales! Here are a couple pics I snapped of some of the stories we read.

I am finishing up my Ed.S and have been working on my final paper... that has taken up *a lot* of my time lately. Guess what.....One more week and I will be finished and will graduate! Yipee! Hopefully, once I'm finished I will be able to get back on track with my blogging and tpt products. I have a long list of products that I have started, but had to put on the back burner due to being so busy. I can't wait to finally get those finished!

I did manage to whip up a new Junie B. Jones companion pack for the book Junie B., First Grader Jingle Bells, Batman Smells (P.S. So Does May.) while we were off on Thanksgiving break. We will start this tomorrow and I can't wait!

Photo: I finally finished up a new Junie B. Jones companion pack for the book Junie B., First Grader Jingle Bells, Batman Smells! (P.S. So Does May.) I'm so excited to finish a new product... I've been 12 kinds of busy lately and not had a lot of extra time. I plan to start this with my firsties when we return next week from Thanksgiving break. Do I have anyone who is free and could proof this little pack for me?? Leave me your email and I will send it to the first few. :)

So, I think I'm now up to the present. I can't wait for the BIG Super Cyber Savings Sale that is happening on TpT on December 1st and 2nd! My little shop will be 20% off for the next two days. My cart is full of clip art and amazing products from some of my favorite tpt sellers! I can't wait!!!

Well blog friends... that's all I have for tonight in this little... well who am I kidding, this LONG catch up post. haha  I promise to be back sooner than later! :)

Have a great first week of December!

I Mustache You To Make Healthy Choices! Movember Giveaway and Freebie!

Well hello November! It's so nice to see you. November is jam packed with all kinds of things to teach about...elections, Veteran's Day, Pilgrims, Indians, and Thanksgiving along with so much more. Another thing that November is known for is Movember. What is Movember exactly? Movember
is an annual event involving the growing of mustaches during the month of November to help raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer and other male cancers. The goal of Movember is to change the face of men's health.

How can you bring "Movember" into your classroom? Well, it can be a little hard to explain prostate cancer to our littles... so I'm here today to share with you a few ideas that you can use in your classroom to help promote overall good health by making healthy choices.

This past week our school celebrated Red Ribbon week. I had some amazing mustache mania products from Creative Teaching Press that I needed to use. I decided to team up with my school guidance counselor to make a display for the front hall since her lessons all week were focusing on remaining drug free.

This is the board we created using the super cute mustache mania products from Creative Teaching Press!

She talked with each group this week about drugs and being drug free. One of her lessons with a 6th grade group discussed being high due to drugs and having a natural high due to things we love and enjoy. Rather than being high due to drugs, these 6th graders are going to make a healthy choice to have a natural high. They wrote what their natural high was and we displayed them on our healthy choices board.

This week with the help of Brainpop Jr, my class learned some other ways to make healthy choices in addition to being drug free. Brainpop Jr has a whole section dedicated to health! These are perfect for teaching your students all about exercise, checkups, food choices, washing hands, etc.

After learning about ways to make healthy choices, my students completed a little healthy choices writing activity.

If you would like to complete this little writing activity with your kiddos you can get the writing paper I created here for FREE! :) Students picked out a Creative Teaching Press mustache cut-out and glued in the blank space. I thought they did a great job and they turned out super cute!! :)

Creative Teaching Press has a ton of wonderful and super cute mustache products that are perfect for your Movember needs. They even have mustache postcards that would be perfect to use as invites incase you wanted to throw a fun Movember party with your friends!
