Tops and Bottoms

This week we read Tops and Bottoms. This is one of my favorite springtime stories and the kids always love it each year! Many of them didn't realize the different ways that vegetables grow. We discussed which vegetables were tops, bottoms, and middles and which veggies were are favorites. We also discussed how to plant a garden and what plants need in order to grow.

I picked up a bag of broccoli and carrots and on Friday we did a little taste test to see which my students prefer... tops or bottoms? Many of my kids said they had never tried broccoli! One sweetie told me she was excited to eat them because she is supposed to have 5 different colors of fruit and veggies everyday. :)

The votes are in and bottoms it is! :)
We discussed the vocabulary word lazy. And students did a text-to-self writing activity where they thought about when they feel lazy like Bear.
We also discussed Hare's character traits. We decided that although he is very clever, he was also a really hard worker. Students completed a text-to-self writing activity where they thought about when they work hard like hare.

I just added a new little companion pack for the book Tops and Bottoms to my little TpT store. You can snag it 50% off for the next couple days! It has all of these activities, plus lots more!
