Cat in the Hat Day!

Last Friday we ended our week long reading  celebration with Cat in the Hat day! We wore black, white, and red and sported hats just like that silly cat!

We read The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat comes back and compared the two using a venn diagram.
We brainstormed a list of adjectives for that silly cat, wrote sentences about the cat, enjoyed a tasty cat in the hat inspired snack, did a Seuss book report with our library books (not pictured) and made a cute craft.
As always Read Across America week was a success and so much fun! Can't wait to do it all again next year! :)

Five For Friday on a Saturday! {Seuss and Book Fair Style!}

Happy Saturday! I'm linking up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs for a little Five for Friday action... on a Saturday!

This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America with a week long reading celebration. I had planned to do a post each day with a recap of each day... but then our celebration was cut short though due to snow and cold temps that had our schools closed on Thursday and Friday. You can read about day one of our celebration here and see what we did on Tuesday and Wednesday in this post! :)

Tuesday was all about Fox in Socks! We wore crazy socks, read the book, made a class graph, read the room for rhyming words, found a buddy with a word that rhymes with their word, and made a fox and socks themed snack-- three cheese trees with pink lemonade! :)

It was all kinds of wacky in room 4 for Wacky Wednesday! We wore wacky, mixed up clothes, read the book, did some wacky writing {not pictured}, played wacky spin a word, found a buddy who did all sorts of wacky things, and enjoyed a wacky snack... banana dogs with PB&J! SOOO much fun!

Thursday was a snow day... so I worked on things from home for the Book Fair.

Here is a mini teacher wish list board. The pic was taken before I wrote on it. I made three in all! The teacher comes to the fair and fills out slips for books that they would like to have for their classroom. Parents who come to the fair that would like to donate can pick out a wish list slip and purchase a book for their child's teacher. :)  For this project, I used mini trifold boards from Wal-Mart,  CTP Poppin' Patterns library pockets, Carson Dellosa seaside splash scalloped border, and Carson Dellosa Bubbly Blues cut-outs.

Yesterday I spent the snow day setting up the book fair. I'm so excited for the kids to shop next week! It was my most favorite thing when I was in elementary school. :)

I used Fancy Fish 6" Designer Cut-Outs from CTP and Seaside Splash Cut-Outs from Carson Dellosa throughout the whole library to decorate tables, walls, windows, etc.

I LOVE the border from CTP that I used to decorate the windows! It's the new Painted Palette Ombre Turquoise Scallops Border! I want it in EVERY color!! It's sooo pretty! I'm actually in LOVE with their whole new line and want every single little thing! #teacherproblems!!

For the windows, I also used Seaside Splash Cut-Outs from Carson Dellosa.

Some of the great items we have available!

The spring theme for the Scholastic Book Fair is Under the Sea. As soon as I knew the theme I immediately went to my go to place--CTP-- to check out what I thought I could use to decorate. I also had saw Carson Dellosa's super cute Seaside Splash line and knew it would be perfect! If you're doing an ocean themed book fair too, be sure to check out the things I mentioned! :)

I'm currently working on update to this little oldie, but goodie pack... Here is the new cover. I hope to have it finished by the end of the weekend so we can use it this week before spring break!

Well, that's my Five for Friday... on a Saturday! :) Be sure to link up with Kacey to share your 5 random things! Have a wonderful weekend!!

Let's Celebrate Reading Day 1

After a two week snow vacation we finally made it back to school today! I left this little sweetie behind this morning... and he was not a happy camper to see me loading up my school bag this morning. Love his heart!

We returned to school just in time for Let's Celebrate Reading week aka Seuss Week! Today we were all about The Cat in the Hat in Room 4! Here is a little look at some of the things we did.

We made these silly cats today for our hallway bulletin board.

We read The Cat in the Hat and then brainstormed a list of adjectives to describe the cat. Students then picked out four of the adjectives to use in complete sentences about the cat.

We read The Cat in the Hat Comes Back and used a venn diagram to compare and contrast it with The Cat in the Hat. We also imagined what it would be like if we met the cat and completed a little writing activity. And we ended our day with a yummy Seuss inspired snack...Cat Hats!

Well friends, that's all I have for today! I can't wait for Day 2!
Have a great week!!

Let's Celebrate Reading!

It's SNOW week here in middle Tennessee! We got so much snow and ice and the temps have been so cold that most schools have been closed so far every day and some for the remainder of the week too! My district is closed all week. This has given me some extra time to work on some planning for upcoming things at school. One thing that is just right around the corner is Read Across America day. I love this time of year because there is sooo much you can do to get students excited about reading! I turn this into a week long reading celebration. Each day we read a specific book and then complete activities that revolve around that book. We have dress up days, special snacks, and do lots of reading and writing, reading responses, and graphic organizers. It really is a magical week jam packed full of SOOO much fun and learning! If you go all out and like to spend a week on Read Across America and not just one day, I have the pack just for you!
Click the pic below to take you to my shop to read all about it some of the things we plan to do to celebrate reading!

We got so much snow and ice that my miller man has gotten some snow days too!!! Me and Dexter have loved being at home with him and we got in some time playing in the snow! Can't wait to get up in the morning and fix my sweet boys some breakfast!
Fun times with these two cuties!!

I would love to hear how you like to celebrate reading with your students! Leave me a comment telling me all about it! I will pick the 1st, 5th, 10th {if I can get that many! ha} commenter and send you this little pack of FUN! Don't forget to leave your email address... I can't send it to you if I don't have that.

Have a great rest of the week! :)

Catch Up Post & Read Across America Fun

Long time no blog! I didn't get a chance to blog about all the fun that happened in room 4 for Read Across America. Right after we wrapped up our week of Read Across America fun I headed off to sunny Florida to leave for on cruise for spring break! :) We had the best time and this vacation was just what I needed! Nothing's better for this gal's soul than some sunshine, fun, and traveling! LOVE!! Here are a few little pics from our trip. We cruised from Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and the Bahamas. Here are a few little pics from our trip. :)

Although it's always nice to see my sweet firsities smiling faces I was a little sad to get back to the grind this past Monday.... I could have totally went for another week on the beach!

So I'm a *little* behind sharing what we had been up to before spring break but better late than never. Here is a little recap of our week long celebration for Read Across America. We missed Monday due to an icy/snow mixture and were two hours late Tuesday... But that didn't stop us from making the most of the rest of the week!  Monday was supposed to be our Cat in the Hat day. I was so sad it was snowed out! :(

Tuesday was all about Fox in Socks. We wore silly, crazy socks and had fun with rhyming words.

I wrote rhyming words on socks and randomly passed one out to each kiddo. Then they searched around the room to find a friend who had a word that rhymed with their word.

Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday. We wore wacky, mixed up clothes. Sorry no pics of our fun on this day.

Thursday was all about Green Eggs and Ham. Students wore green, we read the book, and we enjoyed green eggs and ham and green juice!

We completed a cute little Sam I Am craftivity. To add a little writing to our craft we completed one of the sheets from Lyndsey's Just Read Week unit.

We made these Cat in Hats for the hallway bulletin board. They turned out totally cute!

Friday was all about READING! It was favorite book character day! Students dressed up as their favorite book character and we read our favorite books throughout the day.

Can you guess which book character I dressed up as?? :)

We also celebrated reading with a fun little party with Seuss inspired snacks.

We munched on a Seussy Snack Mix. {Recipe from First Grade Fever.} We also drank Seuss Juice. {Recipe from First Grade Parade.}

We ate Seussy Kabobbs

We made a yummy Cat in the Hat snack.

One of our focus skills this week was adjectives. We read The Cat in the Hat and then of brainstormed a list adjectives for the cat!

Well blog friends that's all I got for tonight. Hopefully your computer didn't overheat with all the pictures! ha
